Yom HaShoah
The Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Salem State University invites the public to take part in its annual Yom HaShoah ceremony, continuing the tradition that founders Sonia Schreiber Weitz and Harriet Wacks began over 30 years ago. With the theme “Our Will to Live,” this year’s event will feature a talk by Holocaust music scholar Mark Ludwig. Ludwig has worked tirelessly to document the music and art created by victims of the Holocaust whose promising careers were tragically silenced, but who left a rich artistic legacy and stories of courage that testify to the strength of the human spirit. Rabbi Richard Perlman will preside over the service and a candlelight procession. The Salem State Community Chorus will perform traditional songs.

At the event, the Sonia Schreiber Weitz Upstander Award will be presented to Elisabeth Horowitz, founder of North Shore Friends of Refugees.

This event is supported by the Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston and the Cummings Foundation.

Students and guests who anticipate needing accommodations or who have questions about access may contact disability services at access@salemstate.edu.
