I studied Arabic in college and am very rusty. I am loving this chance to reawaken me listening! All of these poems are beautiful. The teamwork you mention about the translation process is very illuminating as well. Loving this. Thank you.

56:42
Oh, yes, that ending!!!

56:56
Can you please add the titles and poets to all the poems in the chat? thank you.

01:01:43

and today. Today. In Gaza.

I love hearing Arabic- such a vividly expressive language! Thank you for having it translated and thank you for reading in Arabic.

01:13:40
Thank you Dima, Jennifer, and Kirun for the beautiful poems!

01:14:33
What steps do you recommend one can take to try co-translation work?

01:16:02
Such an important point to make, re: content of conflict.

01:16:36
Jennifer - you said you do not speak Arabic - can you explain how you work with others to achieve the final poem? What is the process?

01:20:15
So much of poetry is lyricism. Many of the Arabic poems have repetition of words and rhymes that are not apparent in the English - how much emphasis is given to the ‘message’, vs. the ‘emotion evoked’ ?

01:21:30
heart work! Yes. Thank you Jennifer.

01:21:51
We need to understand the socio-political cultural context

01:25:02
The other importance to asking contemporary poets is that they are there to BE asked. It makes it a collaboration between three poets, in which less will be lost and more gained.

01:26:25
Are these poets you are translating well published or emerging or both?

01:26:53
Such an interesting point. That makes so much sense.
