We’re use to the Zoom quality. It gives us opportunities to express grace and engage the imagination.
Diane Macklin
01:03:18
The second and last video were very profound for me.
Barbara Bald
01:04:33
Tropical night really made you feel the sensuality. And late fall could make you feel winter.
Mary
01:04:57
Absolutely gorgeous work! We may have experienced the lyricism of poetry in readings, or poems backed with music, but the somatic process of dance generates an entirely different depth of meaning to each of the poems. So powerful! Thank you.
Nina Lewis
01:05:34
Tropical night - beautiful translation and dual language as well as the dance choreography - all of them grabbed me though and I am IN LOVE with that studio! Wow
Nina Lewis
01:05:59
Also interesting to hear the process just now, Maghan
Aimee L
01:06:03
The second video was incredible--I loved its fluidity and its transitions. I could feel the emotional tension.

Meghan

01:06:46
love that
Elise
01:07:32
Appreciating the lines and rhythms of the dancing bodies deepened my sensitivity to the lines and rhythms of the poetry. This was a magical experience -- so transportive
Kevin McC
01:07:37
I’ll see the dance every time I walk through there. Which is often. Exceptional poem and dance.
Daniel Johnson
01:07:50
Congratulations to you both! Thank you for sharing your duet with us.

It was so interesting to hear from the perspective of the dancers. How did the poets decide what to send?
Kevin McC
01:11:13
Thanks Lois!
Melissa Silva
01:12:00
Thank you Lois Sargent for bringing up some of the history of this form!
Barbara Bald
01:13:08
I am a poet and new to this type of collaboration. What is the best way to approach this—read the poem first, watch the dance first, reading along as they dance?
Melissa Silva
01:14:42
The poem and symbols written on the dancer’s body was one of my faves
Laura
01:15:52
Jake's work was otherworldly
Laura
01:16:26
I enjoyed the unusual angles in Jake's video

Laura
01:18:08
Meghan, your work was ethereal and earthy
Laura
01:18:24
I can't believe you did that in bare feet
Angelina Benitez (she/her/hers)
01:19:04
Meghan's feet are made of steel
MP Carver - Festival Director - Mass Poetry
01:19:12
I agree Kevin, this is such a a great addition to the Festival!
Richard Hoffman
01:19:12
Interesting to think of this interdisciplinarity as a kind of translation: finding a balance between a faithful enactment, whatever that would be, and a satisfying dance…. a kind of synesthesia is involved, I’d guess.
Laura
01:19:33
that's some supple steel
Angelina Benitez (she/her/hers)
01:20:09
that sounds amazing Karen!
Daniel Johnson
01:21:25
Karen, please share a website or more info. about Text Moves so that people can seek you out.
Melissa Silva
01:22:06
Thank you, Karen, fascinating!
Laura
01:22:07
One thing I took from this is the extreme sensitivity shared by dancers and poets. Incredible
Krysia (she/her) Wazny McClain
01:23:02
@Richard, yes!! And having a translated piece in the mix was like a meta commentary on that point. I loved how Tropical Night/Soir Tropical choreography captured the interpretive quality of any translation—all of the shifts in meaning, mood, and energy that come with a change in language. And dance is yet another language!
Kathleen Aguero
01:23:23
Sp grateful to have been part of this project. Betsy brought such complexity and depth to my poem.
MP Carver - Festival Director - Mass Poetry
01:24:44
It was so beautiful Kathi! I loved the interaction in the dance with that window and how it worked with your poem
Elisabeth Weiss
01:25:00
Yours was the most visual poem, Kathi. I saw the geranium growing and heard it longing to break through the window!!!

Cathy (she/her) Fahey
01:25:29
As well as a poet, I'm also a dancer (social and folk). Modern is not my genre. But Iove seeing cross-form art collaboration, and I love mixing body/movement and sound in poems. So having Jake write my poem and dance it was amazing on so many levels.
Volunteer Amanda Hope (she/her/hers)
01:26:00
We’d like to invite the poets and choreographers involved in these performances to drop links to their work in the chat so we can watch/read more and support their work!

Cathy, Jake’s dancing felt edgy and dangerous!!!
